Disclaimer: I am only borrowing these characters. They belong to George Lucas, Kevin J. Anderson, Rebecca Moesta, Timothy Zahn, and Kathy Tyers. The only characters that belong to me are Matt and General Casson. All of the rest are free to hop a shuttle and return home whenever they wish. I have no plans to make any money with this story.
Author’s Note: This fanfic does not really fit into any existing YJK story line. I started writing it after I read "Lost Ones" (about three years ago) and it kind of evolved from there. I’m basically ignoring the Corrilian Trilogy (I didn’t like it. It just never grabbed my attention) because I didn’t want to a Soap Opera twist to bring back Gariel (don’t get me wrong! I love Soaps. Even had a nifty story to bring her back from the dead, but hey this is fanfic and we can do what ever we want!). Also this does not include the event concerning Luke and Mara in VOTF because I haven’t finished reading it yet. I would like to thank Mr. Braider for taking the time to proofread this (several times) and to my special net buddy Lara for all the help in beta reading and story ideas. Thanks a bunch guys!

Part 1
A long time ago in a galaxy far, far away . . .

It is a time of uncertain peace in the galaxy. Emperor Palpatine has been defeated. The once glorious Empire has been reduced to ashes and bickering Imperial officials who can’t agree on anything but their hunger for power.

The men and women of the rebellion who were once soldiers and spies are now the foundation of the New Republic.

Princess Leia, now presidents of the New Republic, and Han Solo are married and have three children: sixteen-year-old twins Jaina and Jacen and fourteen-year-old Anakin. All three are extremely adept in the Force, especially Anakin.

Luke Skywalker, who completed training and has, since become a Jedi Master, has opened a Jedi academy on the fourth moon of Yavin. The academy is located in the abandoned rebel base from which the Rebels destroyed the first Death Star.

Shortly after the Battle of Endor, the Rebels intercepted a message pod meant for the Emperor from the Imperial world of Bakura. The Bakurans had been suffering from several attacks by an unknown race of aliens who they later found out were called the Ssi-ruuk. They needed help desperately to fight back their strange lizard-like attackers.

The Ssi-ruuk would entech, or drain the life force from, other species. Then they would use that energy as fuel for their ships or other things that normally need a power source, storing it in batteries for later use.

The remaining Imperials on Bakura and the Rebel aid team led by Luke Skywalker joined together under the Truce of Bakura and defeated the Ssi-ruuk for good, or so they thought . . .

Now almost two decades later, the Ssi-ruuk are back, and they are looking for revenge. They have designed a new super weapon more dangerous than the Death Stars. With the help of General Casson and his vast resources, they have built it and plan to use it on the New Republic. There is just one problem with their design. There is only one life force strong enough to power their weapon. The energy must come from a Jedi -- and not just any Jedi.

They must be one of the Heirs of Skywalker.

Jaina and Jacen stood on top of the Great Temple of Yavin Four, waiting for their father’s ship to appear in the sky above.

"Look! There it is!" exclaimed Jaina when she saw an odd-shaped silver speck gleaming on the horizon. Even at that distance, she could recognize the configuration anywhere . . . the Millenium Falcon.

"Where? I don’t see it," responded her double.

"There, just over those trees."

"Oh, there it is—wait, Jaina!" But before he could finish his sentence, Jaina had darted down the turbolift and
was heading for the school’s landing pad. Patience had never been one of her strongest qualities.

The Falcon landed, and the entire Solo family – plus Chewbacca – greeted each other with hugs and kisses.

Then Leia asked, "Kids, where is your Uncle Luke?"

Jacen answered, "He went into the jungle a couple of hours ago. He should be back at any time."

"Did I hear my name?" Luke Skywalker, Jedi Knight and Hero to the New Republic, emerged from the jungle.

Han and Leia had rushed over to Yavin Four to see the kids off on their first official Jedi mission. But these young Jedi Knights were no strangers to adventure. In fact they had had more than their share of it. In the past two years, they had defeated an entire academy dedicated to the training of Dark Jedi and the restoration of the Empire. They had exposed an anti-human group called the Diversity Alliance bent on the complete destruction
of the human race. They had been kidnapped, almost turned to, the dark side of the Force. They had lost appendages and friends, been almost killed by Dark Jedi Knights, assassins, bounty hunters, deadly plagues, several natural disasters, Imperials and viscous creatures of all sorts and managed to pull through it all.

But now it was official -- they were Jedi Knights.

Luke had gotten a message the other day from an old friend of his named Gariel Captison. Gariel was the former Prime Minister of an outer rim planet called Bakura.

The Bakurans had once been a part of the Empire, but when Palpatine died, they were no longer protected from the threat that lay just outside their borders. They were called the Ssi-ruuk. The Ssi-ruuk were defeated, but
not for good. When Gariel wrote Luke, she had asked for the help of some Jedi Knights, for there had been
rumors that the Ssi-ruuk were on the move again. Luke thought that this would be the perfect first mission for Jaina, Jacen, Zekk, Tenel Ka, and Lowbacca. How dangerous could chasing rumors be anyway? Besides, Luke
had always said the five young Jedi Knights were stronger together.

In front of them sat the Rock Dragon, Tenel Ka’s own ship. They boarded the sleek silver Hapan passenger cruiser and, with their final good-byes completed, set off for the Bakura system.

When they arrived at Bakura, the young Jedi Knights were greeted with a small reception at Gariel Captison’s house. There they met a boy named Matt. He worked as an intern in Gariel’s office. He was a quiet boy and pretty much kept to himself. Gariel liked the boy and thought he needed to meet some people his own age, so
she invited him to the reception. Matt was fifteen with wavy chestnut-brown hair. He seemed to be paying a great deal of attention to the twins, especially Jaina. For some reason, this made Zekk fell very protective over her.

I can’t be jealous . . . can I? He thought.

Luke often went into the lush jungle to meditate when he felt uneasy like he did today. There was something
not quite right – no, there was definitely something very wrong.

Leia and Han had gone to visit Lando Calrissian on his Corusca gem mining station in the atmosphere of Yavin itself. No, he wasn’t worried about them; Han and Leia could take care of themselves.

There was something else. Something was tugging at the back of his mind. He decided to go to his spot in the jungle and meditate on it.

The answer came to him in a very dream-like way . . .

Luke was floating in deep space. Ahead of him, he saw a Ssi-ruuvian ship. How odd that I would dream of the Ssi-ruuk. He made his way to the ship. In his dream-altered form, Luke was able to pass through the bulkhead
of the ship and observe. Inside, he found a room crowded with Ssi-ruuk. The aliens surrounded a human male. He was about fiftyish with military-cropped gray hair and a neatly trimmed mustache and beard. He wore the uniform of an Imperial general. Standing near the man was a boy of fifteen or sixteen. The boy had his back to Luke, and the only thing that really stood out in the Jedi master’s mind was the boy’s dark wavy hair. The general addresses the aliens.

"Behold our salvation, our means to return to glory!"

All heads turned to an entechment chair in the corner of the room. Luke then sensed that something was very wrong. He felt the presence of one of the Solo children…

Luke came out of his contemplation with a start. He could almost hear Yoda’s voice. It is the future you see . . . Always in motion is the future.

The answer came to him in a flash. One of Han and Leia’s children was going to be enteched by the Ssi-ruuk!

And then it hit him. The twins were in the Bakura system, investigating rumors of their return! He had to contact Han and Leia at once . . .

When the Millenium Falcon arrived back at the academy, Luke was there waiting.

"Hey, kid," Han said with a twinkle in his eye. "How’s it goin’?"

"We need to talk." Luke looked pale.

"That bad, huh?" Han joked with his cocky half-grin. That grin had become a Solo trademark that Jacen often mimicked.

"Well, this time it is," Luke replied quietly. "We should go inside."

End of part one.
